Thanksgiving Place Card Project

For Canadian thanksgiving, we pulled out these pilgrim hats that we made a few years ago, and I thought it'd be a fun project to share with you.  We got the idea from Simply Handmade, a great book with lots of ideas that you can do with kids (or friends!) to mark the changing of the seasons.

We bought small terra cotta pots and painted the bottoms black.  The band around the edge could be painted whatever colours you like!  If you prefer, you can decorate the black part of the hat with white dots instead of leaving it all black.  We cut out the circle for the bottom of the hat out of a sheet of craft foam.  After the paint was dry, we used a glue gun to attach the upside-down pot onto the circle of foam to make the hat.  We also cut out small, yellow buckles to glue on the hat (attached on the opposite side of the hat, not shown.)  We used a paint pen to write each person's name on the band of the hat.

Cute, hm?  Any craft projects on your agenda now that fall has arrived?  Do tell!

  1. I'd love to do some crafts, but I'm thinking of a Christmas craft. I would like 5 matching stockings for the family. I think I would sew them, unless I can find some great ones pre-made. A new Michael's HomeSense and Winner's just opened up down the street from me and I'm due for a visit.
