good guess, Kelly! it would have been great had there been hardwood underneath :)
we had always assumed there was a concrete slab directly underneath the tile, but in fact, there is a subfloor with joists and a mini-crawl space (that's not attached to the crawl space under the main house)...
and yes, the holes were made to blow in insulation! we were able to peer down one of the holes, and we're almost positive that's what the holes were for.
