tackling the basement leak

Come take a walk down our muddy front walk, littered with PVC pipe and dirt, to our soggy mess of a backyard...

Last weekend, Mr. BC decided to have a look at the outside wall where the basement has been leaking.  The PVC drain pipes weren't properly attached to one another, which may not be the sole cause of the problem, but it certainly isn't helping.

While he was at it, he also cut away several huge tree roots that were growing on top of the pipe.  There are no trees nearby, so it must be a root from one of the trees on the side of the property.
